Visit to Hydroelectric Power Station Stechovice
The Štěchovice hydroelectric power station, which consists of two power plants, is part of the so-called Vltava Cascade constructed at the end of World War II. During the excursion we will explore the engine room of the Štěchovice I power plant, where two generators produce electricity.
The power plant complex also houses the engine room of the Štěchovice II pumped storage plant which uses the upper reservoir located on the adjacent hill.
The concrete dam is 22.5 m high and 120 m long forming the reservoir which is 9.4 km long with a capacity of 11.2 million m3 of water. Its primary purpose is to balance the fluctuating runoff from the hydroelectric power station at Slapy to allow peak-load operation. The five spillways of the dam have a capacity of 2.400 m3/s and can handle even catastrophic floods as the one in 1890.
The visit to the powerplant takes 1.5 - 2 hours (duration 3 - 3.5 hours incl. transfer time).
