Schindler's route

Back in the 15th century, the first Jews began to open shops and restaurants in Kazimierz, and the area soon became popular with the Jews. They brought new things to the city, for instance a different alphabet, a different religion, different clothing style, different taste in music taste, cooking, etc. Originally, Kazimierz was an independent city and it was only in the 1800s that this area became part of Krakow, known as The Jewish Quarter. The world-famed film Schindler’s List by Steven Spielberg was shot in Krakow, mainly in Kazimierz and in the district close to the old Synagogue. The old Synagogue is the oldest in Poland and dates back to the 1400s. Today, it’s converted into a museum for Jewish culture. Few times a year, the Jewish quarter is closed due to special Jewish festivals and Jews from all over the world visit the place. The tour of the city is on foot with an English speaking guide but you have to go by bus to the Plaszów camp. The tour will take you to the Jewish Quarter (Kazimierz), Ghetto, Plaszów Camp, Schindler’s Factory Museum and the old Synagogue. The tour ticket includes entrance fees to the various synagogues, the churchyard, the museum, and the Plaszów camp. After the tour, you will have gained more knowledge of the city and its history. At the same time you have got to know the city and it will thus be easier to find your way around on your own.
