The Agri trip is one of our most popular tours. You will get an insight into Italian village life and into olive and wine production.
The guide will pick you up at the hotel in Rome and then you will drive along the Via Appia Antica, towards the Via Appia Nouva and then to the Alban Lake. You can stretch your legs here and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake and Castel Gandolfo, the pope’s summer residence.
The tour continues to the small village Giulianello. The guide will tell about Italian village life, agriculture, employment and economics. The next stop is at a small country house to visit a local family and you will be served wine and homemade bread. The guide will tell about cultivation of grapes and olive, the most important products of the region – and about life in the area.
The next visit is at an olive mill, a so-called frantoio, where farmers from nearby villages have their olives pressed. You will also get the opportunity to taste various olive sorts.
After the visit it’s time for lunch at a local pizzeria.
After lunch, you will visit the ecological vineyard, Marco Carpineti which has been owned by the same family for generations. Their best known wines are Capo Le Mole, Casale and San Pietro.
Please note that the olive mill can only be visited during harvest season from end October to March.
If you want to skip the lunch, you can be back in Rome by approx. 3.00 p.m.
